VinFast Faces Problems During Global Expansion
VinFast has faced vehicle, financial, and sales-distribution problems during its global expansion.
9/25/2026Vietnamese carmaker VinFast has faced serious problems since the start of its global expansion. In the United States, the VF 8 received especially poor reviews for badly tuned suspension, handling problems, and unfinished software and electronics. The issues also led to several service campaigns. In 2023, nearly 1,000 cars in the U.S. were called in because a screen could turn off while driving.
The company also has financial problems. In 2025, VinFast reported a net loss of about $4 billion, and its financial report warned of serious doubts about whether the company could continue operating without more funding. The automaker closed its own showrooms in parts of Europe and switched to a cheaper sales model through independent dealers.
Its sales structure has also caused controversy. In 2023, as many as 72% of delivered cars went to businesses connected with the company, mainly the GSM taxi network owned by VinFast’s founder. That share later fell: in 2024, related businesses accounted for about 28% of deliveries.
