Eleanor of Aquitaine’s Two Marriages
Eleanor of Aquitaine had eight children with her second husband, Henry Plantagenet, including two future kings of England.
9/24/2026Eleanor of Aquitaine was married to France’s King Louis VII for 15 years. She had two daughters with him, but no sons, which became one of the main reasons their marriage ended.
Officially, the marriage was annulled in 1152 because the spouses were too closely related. Just eight weeks later, Eleanor married Henry Plantagenet, who became King of England as Henry II two years later.
With her second husband, Eleanor had eight children—five sons and three daughters—including the future kings Richard the Lionheart and John Lackland.
